Penrith Solar Clean Frequency

The panels on this property were 6 years old at the time of the clean, and apparently, had never been cleaned. The owner observed lichen developing on one side of the property, yet the opposite side had very little if any. The roof area with the lichen also had lichen on the solar cells mounted to it, this was of concern.

Penrith is less affected by nature than other areas, such as Roseville (as per other recent work), since it has a more moderate tree coverage, and is in a dryer climate, reducing the occurrence of panel destroying lichen and other harmful environmental deposits. Despite this, lichen still developed, plus we had other dirt and grime deposited by the environment.

The owner, rightly, called us in for a full solar clean. The results can be seen below. Some marks were left due to the lichen, but the owner got away with minimal damage.

After 6 years, some “cloudiness” was bound to occur from where the lichen had been attached beginning to eat into the panel coating. In this instance, solar power generation will be restored to almost full capacity (compared to another comparable and fully maintained panels of the same age) as it was not left to grow exponentially. it was also limited to a small overall surface area.

The fact Extra Hand Solar Clean cleaned these panels using our processes, to manufacturers requirements, also means the solar panel warranty should not be impacted.

If contaminants are removed in a timely fashion, damage can be substantially reduced or avoided. We recommend cleaning take place in periods not exceeding 36 months in conditions like this at Penrith. Other parts of Sydney are different such as Roseville where we would recommend half of this time, say 18 monthly cleans.
